Se clauses

Se (if) clauses are usually used to express contrary-to-fact or uncertain conditions. For such clauses there is a specific sequence of tenses to be followed. Observe the following:

Vado in Itạlia se ho il denaro.

I’m going to Italy if I have the money.

Andrò in Itạlia se avrò il denaro.

I’ll go to Italy if I have the money.

Andrei in Itạlia se avessi il denaro.

I would go to Italy if I had the money.

Sarei andato in Itạlia se avessi avuto il denaro.

I would have gone to Italy if I had had the money.
